I recently returned from a two week trip to California to visit my parents. My son and I had a wonderful time, visiting family and friends, playing outside in the nice warm sun, and getting to "relax" in a different setting. I say "relax" because with a 2 1/2 year old, regardless of where you are, it's never really really relaxing. But we sure did had fun.
I grew up in California and still have a lot of very wonderful friends there. In fact, a large portion of my regular customers are actually those folks in California. It means a lot to me and I really appreciate their support. When I told them I was going to be coming to California for Mother's Day, the orders for macaron boxes quickly came in.
By the time I got on the plane, I was carrying with me over 200 cookies in my carry on baggage and was scared out of my mind that as the plane got up to altitude, I would hear the heart wrenching sound of all 200+ cookies exploding under pressure. I think I actually dreamt about it. Luckily there were only a few casualties but I was prepared with extras just in case.
Aside from the macaron boxes that were purchased, I had more plans for sharing my macaron obsession while I was in town...I was going to have a macaron party.
In preparation, I baked about three dozen macarons, had the girls bring a few different fillings, and when we got together, I did a demonstration on how to make the macarons themselves.
While the cookies were in the oven, we busted out the fillings and got to work on the cookies I'd baked ahead of time. The girls brought the best fillings: Nutella, Cookie Butter, lemon curd, earl grey, and strawberry basil buttercream and when the evening was over, each girl got to take 5 macarons home. Not a bad deal.

I put together a Macaron Kit for a few of the girls, which included almond flour and the sugars, instructions, piping bags, a piping template and clear bags to put their finished products in.
I had so much fun getting to share this crazy new obsession with my dear friends and look forward to seeing whether the macaron craze gets to them too.
Thank you friends for such a fun evening. Thank you for letting me share with you my love for baking and thank you for sharing your lives with me. I look forward to seeing lots of macaron pictures from you all in the future.
